28th Annual COPS 2 Mardi Gras Meals
One of the ways we try to personalize our thanks to the police officers of the 2nd District is to serve them meals at various times during Mardi Gras. We work with businesses in the community who donate items for the meals and we set up a nice venue at the Station for the officers to gather before they go out to the parade route for the long Mardi Gras hours. 2013 marks the 28th consecutive year that COPS 2 has coordinated this effort. Feeding the officers of the Second District is one of the oldest traditions of COPS 2

New Scooter for "The 2nd"
COPS 2 recently helped the 2nd District purchase a new scooter, making a total of five
scooters provided to the district since 2006. The 2nd District officers use the scooters
to allow them quick and easy access in high-traffic areas to address crime, provide
greater visibility and promote positive public relations. The scooters are used mainly
in the areas of Magazine, Oak and Tchopitoulas Streets.

Detectives Get New Laptops
Earlier this year, COPS 2 donated funds for laptops for the 2nd District Detectives Unit.
Each of our 2nd District Detectives now has a "state of the art" laptop which enhances their
ability to connect quickly to the NOPD main computer and thus do their investigative work more
efficiently. The portability is an important aspect of their investigative and report-writing work.

Tommy Parker Awards
Tommy Parker was an exceptional member of COPS 2 who served for many years on the Board and is remembered for his dedication
and hard work to helping police officers in the 2nd District. Upon
his death, The Azby Fund, and friends of Tommy Parker established
a memorial fund for "Tommy Parker Awards" in order to recognize
the outstanding work of police officers in the 2nd District. The
Tommy Parker Awards are presented each quarter to the 2nd District's
Best Patrol Officer, Best DIU (Detective Investigative Unit) Officer,
and Best Reserve or Rank Officer.
At the end of the year, The Tommy Parker Best of the Best is awarded
to the officer who stands out among the best of the quarterly award
recipients in each category. The award recipients are determined
by careful evaluation of the supervisors and Commander of the 2nd
District with input from COPS 2.
